Its a good option for light cartridges, but the light weight and stock design dont make for a good match on heavy cartridges. I even bought one Mauser with a shot out barrel knowing it was shot out for $240 dollars complete with scope and had a local gunsmith rebarrel it for me and reblue the whole gun and I had only $600 in it. In fact, I frequently find myself out shooting with a Sig Cross even when I have much more expensive guns that I could be choosing. XPR has a great barrel (mine was very accurate), free floated; pretty smooth bolt/action for price; same trigger as M70; permacote is durable; stock is better than most in price range. In this price range, manufacturers use very loose tolerances and have very poor quality control, so Im careful what I recommend. My two next rifles will be a Weatherby Mark V and a Sako 85. I own a Tikka T3 in .300 WSM and love it as my go-to big game hunting rifle. Hunting rifles per say but not many of the new techno rifles. An XBolt in 6.8 Western may be a great option. My mossberg patriot shoots like a custom rifle. I took it back to Scheels and the guys said its the second time someone has brought one back with that issue in a week. I am a big Fierce fan. Ive narrowed it down to a Sig Cross in 6.5, a JTAC Screech Owl in 6.5 22 barrel. I decided to go a different direction by changing out the barrel for a 20 inch Proof. Im sold on the 7mm-08 for hunting but am having a hard time deciding/finding a decent rifle chambered in that caliber. So small and packable, and Im getting incredible accuracy out of it. If you want a wood stock, metal parts, and nice bluing, feel free to spend an extra $300 or more on a Ruger Hawkeye or similar. This gun is very accurate, has a great bump pad to absorb recoil (unlike most wood rifles) and has a threaded barrel for good measure. On the flip side, a 60-degree throw is often not always, but usually stiffer, and this was the case here. Savage, Tikka, Browning, Christensen- all offer LH options and should be commended for it. My experience as well Tim! Im sure the leupold would be better, but for a 700 dollar difference, Ill see how I like the Burris. I just cant keep myself from grabbing the Sig Cross. Leave the modern made junk guns to the young and inexperienced people which results in the good stuff out there being more plentiful for us old foxes that know what a quality gun is and what a reliable one is.
